4th of July

We had a wonderful 4th of July. Great weather, good picnic, delicious barbeque, and good company. It is becoming a tradition to spend the 4th of July with our friends, the Wall family. What a blessing. This year we even did some sparklers and worms. Some pics below.

Kara is on day 4 of a 7 day "wean." For days 1-3 we gave her limited amounts of milk through her NG tube and some water (to prevent dehydration) through the tube. Hoping to encourage her hunger levels and increase her desire to eat more. A few weeks ago, her daily oral intake was about 120 mL per day. Yesterday was in the 300s and Saturday was in the 400s. Way to go, Kara! Her total volume is 770mL per day (and increasing) so we're not there yet, but her progress is encouraging. This process is slightly difficult on me because every time she cries or is at all fussy, I think "is she hungry?" and try to get her to eat. This leads to snacking and a frustrated Mommy and baby. I need to just relax! She is also getting to the age where she a) cannot sleep anywhere (the last 2 days have been tough because we have been on the go) and b) she has a fussy voice when she wants company. If she is alone in a room for too long, she will start to protest. We love our Kara-beara.

We meet with her surgeon this Thursday, so it will be interesting to see what new information, strategies, etc. come from that.

In other news, Katie is potty-trained (because life was just getting a bit too calm for a day or so!!). We are astounded at how well she is doing. Hooray for Katie! And Hooray for less diaper laundry for Mommy. Thank you, God, for your specific grace in this area!

Meg - Enjoyed the updates. So fun that I can still keep up even from here. Praying for your stress with the feeding situation! - Tamara
